Within the framework of the elaboration of the sustainable tourism development plan EURICON Ltd supported the Municipality of Aegialia in a series of three-day meetings. During the first day, Thursday 29th of February 2024, the Project Team met with the Mayor Kalogeropoulos and then with the Tourism Promotion and Development Committee and the officials of the Municipality.
Afterwards, on Friday 1st of May 2024 in the Old Slaughterhouse Hall in Aigio and on Saturday 2nd of March 2024 in the East Aegialia Tourism Development Hall of the Chamber of Commerce in Akrata, a series of informative meetings were held with cultural, environmental, hospitality and catering agencies as well as productive, professional, and business agencies.
The purpose of the events was the “Targeted Discussion with local factors for the valuation of the current situation and the special characteristics of the Municipality of Aigialia”. Initially, Evangelos Kyriakou presented the project of elaborating a Sustainable Tourism Development and Branding Plan and its feasibility. Then Konstantinos Tzanas presented then information gathering and consultation process. This was followed by the interventions of local agencies coordinated by Christos Kanellis. Finally, Vasilios Siomadis closed the events with the conclusions that had been reached.
The informational meetings were attended by the deputy mayors Maria Angelopoulou, Takis Andriopoulos, Maria Stavropoulou, Giorgos Fragonikolopoulos, Mayor’s special advisors Panagiotis Angelopoulos and Christos Tserentzoulias and a number of representatives of local agencies who participated actively expressing their opinions and submitting their proposals. Through the presentations it was emphasized that sustainable tourism is linked to the participatory process and its management requires networking, focusing on elements with a long-term and comparative advantage. The increase in visitors with spatial and temporal dispersion will strengthen the local economy but also the local culture for the civilization and the environment, with the final result being the increase of the living standard and the quality of life of the citizens alongside the improvement of the visitor’s experience.
